02 We divide by the real coverage of each box.
03 We round up: you can't buy fractions of boxes.
COMMERCIAL REFERENCE
Common laminate box sizes.
Frequent plank sizes and box coverages. Every manufacturer tweaks plank length and sq ft per box: use the number printed on the carton for the exact calculation.
| Plank (length × width) | sq ft per box | Planks per box |
|---|---|---|
| 47.6 × 7.5 in | ≈ 19.6 sq ft | 12 planks |
| 48 × 8 in | ≈ 23.8 sq ft | 10 planks |
| 50.7 × 6.1 in | ≈ 15.9 sq ft | 8 planks |
CLEAR QUESTIONS
Before you open the box.
How much margin should I add?
For a rectangular room, 10% is a practical reference. Raise it for diagonal layouts, columns or patterned installation.
Does the calculator include baseboards?
No. This estimate covers the flooring planks. Baseboards are measured in linear feet, not square feet.
Can I use it for vinyl plank (LVP)?
Yes, if you enter the real coverage per box of the product. Also check the margin its manufacturer recommends.
